The Fey Folk (Halloween Poem Challenge, Day 3)

The Fey Folk

How do you lose yourself?

Forget your place and all you know?

It’s easier than you think Sweet Child

Just read the words below.

Dress yourself in darkness

And wreathe your hair with dew,

Then step inside a Fairy Ring

And kick off both your shoes.

Soon the Fey Folk will grasp your hands

And steal you far away,

To a moonlit night of fire

Where the drums will always play.

Dance around in circles

Feel the heat upon your skin,

Kiss some lips in earnest

And taste that bitter gin.

Whirl and twirl forever

Lose your mind inside the fray,

Dance around in circles

And dance your life away.

About the Poem

Hey guys,

So back in college I wrote some poems for an elective assignment. This one was inspired by Fairy Rings, which are basically naturally occurring rings of mushrooms. According to Celtic myth, any mortals who enter one will be transported to another plane, driven mad and compelled to dance until they die. And even if they do managed to escape, they might return to our realm to find that years (or even centuries) have passed.

Have you written a fallish or Halloweenish poem? I’d love to read it! Also be sure to visit LUM3N on Unsplash for more beautiful photography.
